Introduction to the course

This course is ideal if you are planning to go to university to study a sports degree or you want to gain employment in the sports and leisure industry. You will study:

· Sport in society

· Body in action

· Psychology of sport

· Nutrition

· Skill performance

· Ethics and values

As part of the course, you will also develop your capabilities in IT and communications.

What do I need?

You will need five GCSEs at grades A*-C or equivalent, including English. You will need to enjoy sports and fitness, and have the desire to maintain your own personal fitness.

You will need to have a keen interest in anatomy, exercise physiology and the science of sports performance. An excellent reference is essential, and you will be looking to go onto further study at either university or higher education apprenticeship.

How is the course taught?

As a Level 3 student, you will enjoy exclusive use of our hybrid classroom/sports lab, which will enable you to learn through a combination of scientific investigation and academic lessons. Practical lessons take place in our well-equipped Sports Centre, which includes both a full-size sports hall and our new state-of-the-art gymnasium.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods depend on the particular unit being studied. However, assessment could take place through a range of methods, including lab reports, case studies, presentations and portfolios.

What does it lead to?

You could progress to a university degree or a BTEC Higher National course. You could also progress into employment in the sports and leisure industry.

Entry Level
