Introduction to the course
Sports lessons will be taught in in both practical and theory. The units you complete will consist of a wide variety of subjects focusing on sports coaching and officiating, leadership and fitness training and more theoretical elements including anatomy and physiology, sports development, sports psychology and nutrition.
What do I need?
Five GCSE grades A-C or equivalent, including English, Mathematics. You will need to enjoy coaching young people of mixed abilities in a wide range of sports. A good reference is essential. You must be willing to be enthusiastic, energetic work within a team.
How is the course taught?
Sports lessons will be taught within the classroom covering basic knowledge at the required level. Practice lessons range from the sports hall, playing fields and Gym.
How will I be assessed?
There is a wide range of assessment and this varies form, assignment writing, presentations, practical self-assessment and peer self-assessment.
What does it lead to?
Look for employment within the sports, leisure and fitness industry. Specialist within a sports area to further your development, for example Sports therapy, Sports development and Sports coaching.
