Introduction to the course

The qualification is designed to meet the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to teach Literacy and ESOL. The course will enable you to adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of teaching. You will reflect on your own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills and areas for development. You will identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation and develop confidence, communication and interpersonal skills. You will conduct investigation and research into current practice and the theories and models relating to education and training, in the context of Literacy and ESOL teaching. Throughout the programme, you will need to demonstrate your ability to transfer the findings of your research into your own practice.

How is the course taught?

You will be taught in a variety of ways using group work, reflective discussion, lectures, practical sessions and presentations

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed by a combination of assignments, a teaching practice portfolio of evidence and observation of teaching or training.

What does it lead to?

This course will qualify you to teach Literacy and ESOL. You could progress to a related Degree course.
