advanced clinical

This apprenticeship is aimed those who provide vital assistance to healthcare professionals that diagnose, treat and care for patients. They work in clinical services e.g. medical, surgical, critical care, outpatients, community and A&E and look after the well-being and comfort of patients. They may have a supervisory role. These roles provide vital assistance to paramedics responding to emergency calls. They drive the emergency vehicles. They move people safely, looking after their well-being and comfort. They maintain the medical and life saving emergency equipment in the ambulance.

Average Duration: The apprenticeship runs for 12 to 14 months

Course Information

The Intermediate Clinical Healthcare Apprenticeship is made up of a framework which includes:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support
  • Math Functional Skills Level 2
  • English Functional Skills Level 2
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

Progression

Apprentices may progress to advanced apprenticeship in clinical care; care management, team leading

Entry qualifications

Applicants will be assessed and interviewed to demonstrate that they are able to cover the range required by the relevant NVQ at work. In addition, the apprentices are expected to carry out initial assessments in English and Maths where they would be expected to ideally achieve a level 1 in both the subject areas. If you do have GCSE then they don’t have to do functional skills as a part of the apprenticeship.

Assessment

The apprentice is expected to attend college to attain knowledge, training and complete an online portfolio. In addition, they will also be trained by the employer which is then assessed by college assessors and put together as an online portfolio.

You can apply through the college application. Once you have applied to the college, you will be invited for an interview at the college and also with the potential employer.

  • Causes and spread of infection
  • Cleaning, decontamination and waste management
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

  • Undertake urethral catheterisation processes
  • Care for individuals with urethral catheters
  • Deliver, monitor and evaluate customer service to external customers
  • Plan and organise meetings
  • Manage own performance in a business environment
  • Undertake stoma care
  • Carry out personal hygiene for individuals unable to care for themselves
  • Undertake treatments and dressings of lesions and wounds
  • Carry out wound drainage care
  • Remove wound closure materials
  • Insert and secure nasogastric tubes
  • Care for individuals with nasogastric tubes
  • Prepare for and carry out extended feeding techniques
  • Undertake physiological measurements
  • Conduct external ear examinations
  • Obtain and test capillary blood samples
  • Remove wound drains
  • Carry out vision screening
  • Administer oral nutritional products to individuals
  • Provide agreed support for foot care
  • Support individuals to manage dysphagia

Location

We can accommodate different models based on the needs of the employer but generally the model is one/half day a week at our Enfield Campus or Tottenham Campus and the rest of the time working closely with an employer.
