Level 2 qualifications in Cleaning and Support Services Skills can help you succeed in lots of different cleaning roles, including:

  • Cleaner
  • Industrial cleaner
  • Street cleaner
  • Window cleaner

Location

This training is delivered entirely on the employer’s premises.

Average Duration: The apprenticeship runs for 12 months

Course Information

The Intermediate Cleaning Operations Apprenticeship is made up of a framework which includes:

  • Cleaning and Support Service Skills QCF Certificate Level 2
  • Cleaning Principles QCF Certificate Level 2
  • Maths Functional Skills Level 1
  • English Functional Skills Level 1
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

Progression

Apprentices may progress to Advanced Apprenticeships in Facilities Management Level 3 or Team Leader qualifications.

Assessment

The apprentice is expected to attend on the job and off the job training to attain knowledge training and complete competency units. In addition to that they will also be trained by the employer.

Entry qualifications

There are no formal entry requirements to this qualification. Apprentices will be assessed and interviewed to demonstrate that they have the skills required by the relevant NVQ at work. In addition, the apprentices carry out initial assessments in English and Maths where they are expected to ideally achieve Level 1 in both subject areas. If the apprentice has GCSE English and Maths, they don’t need to complete functional skills as a part of their apprenticeship.

How to apply

You can apply through the college application. Once you have applied to the college, you will be invited for an interview at the college and also with the potential employer.

Unit Title

Mandatory Units include:

  • Dealing with routine and non-routine waste
  • Health and Safety for the cleaning support services
  • Working with customers and others in the cleaning and support service industry
  • Reduce risks to health and safety in the workplace
  • Communicate effectively in the workplace
  • Develop yourself in the job role

Optional Units include - need to select some of these units:

  • Cleaning and maintenance of external surfaces and areas
  • Cleaning of confined spaces
  • Cleaning of food areas
  • Cleaning of glazed surfaces and façades
  • Cleaning of interiors and washrooms
  • Deep cleaning of internal equipment
  • Maintenance and minor repairs
  • Manual street cleaning
  • Work with others and follow reporting procedures
  • Work individually and follow reporting procedures in a cleaning environment
  • Clean and maintain internal areas
  • Clean and maintain external areas
  • Clean washrooms and replenish supplies
  • Clean high risk areas
  • Clean food areas
  • Deep clean equipment and surfaces
  • Deal with non-routine waste
  • Carry out maintenance and minor repairs
  • Work safely at heights
  • Carry out maintenance and minor repairs
