About the Course

This Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is for learners wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card. The CSCS Green Card is intended for those working in labouring occupations only. From July 2024 CSCS is planning to introduce a new requirement for applicants to achieve a formal knowledge-based qualification, the ‘Health and Safety in a Construction Environment’ Award. Achievement of this award will demonstrate the applicant’s understanding of key issues affecting safe working practices on UK construction sites.

The course aims to cover an introduction into the following topics

1. Know the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work

2. Know the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace

3. Know the importance of working safely at height in the workplace

4. Know risks to health within a construction environment

5. Know the importance of working around plant and equipment safely

This course is for adults that are 19+ and on completion of the course’s candidates will receive a college certificate that can be used to support CPD.

What Will I Need?

Please be prepared to provide your residency documents such as a passport, EU citizen ID card, UK Birth Certificate or Biometric Card. If you have been in the UK for less than 1 years or have entered the UK with a visa you will need to provide evidence that you are eligible to study in the UK - your visa, your biometric card that covers the duration of your course or any relevant home office documents to support your residency should all be provided. If you’re an EUEEA or Swiss citizen we will need to see evidence of 'Pre-Settled' or 'Settled-status' documents. Also for funding purposes we would need to see evidence of payslips if working (within the last 3 months). If you are receiving benefits (e.g JSA, ESA, Universal Credit (UC), Housing benefits etc. please provide evidence of this).

What Can I Do After?

On successful completion of this course, you will have a greater understanding of all the health and safety aspects to have access to a live, working building site and you can then apply to sit the test for the Green CSCS card which will assist with gaining an apprenticeship or employment in the industry
