Martial Arts Academy

The College's  Martial Arts Academy, run in partnership with the English Karate Federation, is the first of its kind. Our aim is to provide opportunities to practice martial arts, introduce talent identification and development programmes and increase sporting opportunities and new experiences for students.

Open to beginners and elite martial artists from all martial arts who wish to learn/transfer their skills.

What you get as a College Martial Arts Academy member:

All MAA martial artists will receive:

  • Free tracksuit and t-shirt
  • Elite coaching from 6 hours per week in the College's Sports facility at Enfield
  • Entry into competitions when competent
  • Affiliation to National Governing Bodies
  • On site medical support for injury prevention and rehabilitation
  • Free membership and use of the brand new College gym and fitness suite
  • Free fitness, strength and conditioning, exercise and nutrition programmes designed and monitored for you

Elite Academy players will receive: (Gold plus programme)

  • 15 hours of professional martial arts coaching per week
  • Access to training facilities
  • Individual skills development programme
  • Performance testing and analysis
  • Cognitive neuroscience support  to develop focus
  • Opportunity to become a College Sponsored Athlete - value of up to £2500 per year
  • Opportunity to attend international competitions and training camps

Martial Arts Academy Selection Criteria

To be eligible to be considered for the MAA you must be:

  • 16-18 years of age on g an academic programme
  • 100% commitment to participating on either the bronze, silver, gold or gold plus MAA programmes
  • Possess a positive attitude toward the academic and MAA programmes

3 Easy steps to enrol

  1. After attending the taster day where you will be interviewed by the MAA coaches
  2. Attend a second interview with
  3. the 31 August of the enrolling year
  4. Enrolled on a full-time programme of study at the College
  5. Beginner or elite martial artist
  6. 100% commitment to studyin
  7.  your academic subject tutors
  8. Enrol on your chosen course subject to eligibility

New MAA members will be placed onto the appropriate programme outlined below:

Bronze

  • Level – Beginners 
  • 6 Hours - 1 x Strength & conditioning session per week and 2 x MAA classes per week

Silver

  • Level - Intermediate to advance martial artists
  • 10 Hours - 2 x Strength & conditioning sessions per week and 3 x MAA coaching sessions per week

Gold

  • Level - Elite
  • 14 Hours - 3 x Strength & conditioning sessions per week and 4 x MAA coaching sessions per week
