College nursery graded Outstanding
The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s Nursery has been graded Outstanding by Ofsted who inspected the onsite provision in May.
The nursery, which is based in purpose built premises at the Tottenham Centre, received a Grade 1 in all areas including overall effectiveness and leadership and management.
The nursery, which caters for 49 children from birth to eight years old, is open from 8.45am until 5pm for students who are studying at the College.
Ofsted found that the children were happy, the nursery was welcoming and safe, and it met the needs of children exceedingly well. They found that leadership and management was highly effective with all staff members having extensive knowledge of safeguarding issues, as well as children’s learning and development. Staff implemented highly effective systems to monitor nursery provision and children’s individual progress. They also noted that children felt valued and special and their behaviour was excellent.
Children at the nursery have the opportunity to develop their literacy, numeracy and ICT, and are taught how to be responsible, independent and sociable little people. This involves one activity in particular when the children take turns to take home a teddy bear, note book and camera, record what they do at home and report back.
The report highlighted the use of new technology resources, such as light boxes, digital cameras or digital microscopes to allow children to explore and learn about their environment. Children can look closely at bugs found in the undergrowth in their nursery garden and at the developing cocoons turning into butterflies in a live butterfly farm.
Head of Early Years, Bev Johnson, said: “We are delighted to be given an Outstanding grade by Ofsted. We have a dedicated and highly skilled team who do their utmost to make children’s experience at the nursery as positive and effective as possible. The team and parents are all pleased with the outcome and the assurance that we are delivering a first class service.”
