Business and Enterprise students from the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London spent two days at the Britvic factory in Beckton earlier this month where they developed their entrepreneurial skills by devising their own soft drink.

Britvic, who manufacture a host of well-known soft drinks including Robinsons, Tango and J20, set the students the task to create a new soft drink which required them to think about business planning, team working, financial planning and innovation.  

The task, which is part of the students ‘Understanding Enterprise and Entrepreneurs BTEC Level 2’ module, allowed them to experience the developing process.

Students were divided in to two teams and had to decide on a product, negotiate with suppliers and work out costs, before presenting their product idea.

The following day they had to develop a business plan for their new product, which involved packaging, a marketing and price plan, and a TV advert. 

To conclude, the two teams presented their concepts to a panel from Britvic and Barnardo's Children's Charity, who reviewed their performance.

Student representative, Mirina Koleva, said: "It was a good experience and it had lots of links with our course.  Everyone grew in confidence and we gained lots of skills".

Head of School of Business, Darren Leftwich, said: "This was a great opportunity to improve the skills and knowledge of our students. Overall the event was a success and it was a great opportunity to work with Britvic and Barnardo's.” 

Representing Britvic PLC, Mark Neighbour, said: “Britvic and Barnardo's have established this opportunity so students have a closer look at the business aspects of producing a soft drink.  It allows the students to undertake the work in a real work situation.”
