CONEL refreshes the parts other colleges do not reach
The College of North East London's (CONEL's) enrolment programme got off to a good start this year, with over 1,340 students registering for courses on one day alone, last week.
As it was such a hot day, staff distributed water to everyone outside, waiting to speak to an advisor.
Elisha Sheward, a young mother who completed the first year of the Level 2 Hair & Beauty course last year, plans to continue with her studies at CONEL, said: "There seemed to be a lot more people coming to enrol on full-time courses this year. I think that may be due to the good exam results students have achieved recently. Staff are very supportive of students who have to juggle family life with their college work. If it wasn?t for crèche facilities available to students, I would not be able to continue in full-time education."
Cathy Walsh, Vice Principal of CONEL, with special responsibility for Curriculum and Learner Experience, said: "We are very pleased with the number of people who have come along to enrol - so far figures are up on the same period last year. We have made a few changes to the structure of the departments to reflect trends and ensure we are offering the specialist courses young people and adults. We are casting our net further a field to capture students from neighbouring boroughs, in addition to the local Haringey residents we traditionally attract."
Enrolment continues until the end of September. Anyone interested in finding out about full or part-time courses should call the College information line on 0208-442-3055 or visit the website at www.conel.ac.uk. Alternatively come along in person to the Tottenham High Road Centre, where staff will be registering students on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10.00am to 7.00pm or on Fridays from 10.00am to 1.00pm.
