The College of North East London (CONEL) will soon play host to a performance of Michael Frayns Noises Off, put on by its National Diploma in Drama Year 2 students. The play is a farcical comedy about a touring theatre company, which focuses on the hilarious events backstage during the final rehearsals and opening performances of the fictitious play, Nothing On.
Whilst studying Farce as part of their drama course, the learners decision to produce this award winning comedy was inspired by a trip to the theatre to see the play as part of their coursework. They found it so compelling that they decided to put on a performance of this physically challenging play themselves!
To show their level of commitment and determination, the learners have organised the whole production themselves - from building the stage and set, sourcing costumes and props, to organising the lights and logistics. They are hoping to gain recognition for their talents and have invited several actors agents. One of the learners is hoping that this performance will provide a big break into acting! He recently sent his CV to Cast 2 Cast agency and as a result they should be attending the performance. Another of this talented group has already taken part in other productions acting as lighting assistant on the popular Bugsy Malone production at Sadlers Wells as well as having experience as a photographic model.
The play will be staged on Tuesday 15 June in the Drama Hall at the Tottenham Centre at CONEL. The show begins at 6pm and admission is free but seats must be booked. If you would like to come to the show please call Lindsey Pugh, Programme Manager for Performing Arts, on 020 8442 3815.
