Football Academy students selected to play for England
After a three month trialling process, two students from the PASE Football Academy have been selected to play for the England College National Team.
Charlie Hunter and Ruddock Yala recently received confirmation from the English Colleges Football Association and both made their debuts in January where they faced Wales at the TNS National Sports ground in Shropshire.
They will also represent England in a tour of Italy, where they will face the full national teams from Slovakia, Slovenia, Italy and Holland.
Hunter and Yala combine their professional football training at Boreham Wood FC with vocational training in either sports or construction. Ruddock Yala is studying for his Fitness & Exercise NVQ at the College, while Charlie Hunter is studying for a NVQ in Fitness at Boreham Wood FC.
In addition, Fellow Football Academy member, Sam Doolan, who is studying for his Sports Diploma Level 3 at the College, has been selected for Boreham Wood Football Club’s first team squad.
Club manager and coach, Billy Hunter, has high hopes that Sam Doolan can progress in football to play at Conference South Level and beyond over the next 18 months.
All members of the Academy play league and cup games but only the best are selected to play for the England College team, which is a great achievement and allows them to be scouted for premier teams.
College Director, Kurt Hintz, said: “It’s rewarding to see our learners achieving great things. The Football Academy truly is a unique and exciting scheme that allows young players to achieve their dream of playing professional football, while also gaining vital qualifications.”
Billy Hunter, said: “This is a great accolade for the students and now gives Boreham Wood FC six players who have represented the National English Colleges or England Schools in the past two seasons.”
Players who would like to follow in the footsteps of these outstanding athletes will have an opportunity to sign up at trials currently taking place for courses starting in September 2012.
The next dates for trials are: 14 Feb, 5 April, 10 May and 6 June at Boreham Wood FC. And 12 April, 17 May and 7 June at the College’s Enfield Centre.
All trials start at 10am with registration and followed by warm up and play at 10.30am.
