The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London

London’s College for Skills

The Tottenham Centre Open Day at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London helped 15 year old Kadisha Foster seal the deal this week and apply for a Level 3 Health and Social Care course so she can continue her studying to become a paediatric nurse when she leaves school next year.

Currently at Aylward Academy, Kadisha attended the open day with her mum, Clover Henry, who studied at the Tottenham Centre for three years, progressing from entry level to Level 3 Health and Social Care.

Now at university studying Childhood Studies, Clover said: “There was no doubt in my mind that this was the College for Kadisha. The teachers are supportive and highly knowledgeable in their area so and I know my daughter will excel here.”

Kadisha, who also enjoyed having a fake wound painted on by Theatrical Make-up students as part of the open day activities,  added: “From what I’ve seen so far and from watching my mum do so well, I’m looking forward to starting in September.”

The Open Day, which coincided with National College’s Week who are this year promoting employability, also encouraged visitors to sign up the College’s facebook page and complete the Association of College’s (AOC) new career quiz where it is available. The quiz, which is aimed at 14 – 18 year olds aims to guide young people in the right direction, giving them tips and helpful advice on how they can progress in their career choice.

The College will be holding a further Open day at its Enfield centre on Hertford Road on Wednesday 28 November between 4 – 7.30pm. Visitors will have the chance to speak to tutors, submit applications and even receive conditional offers. In addition those interested in Music, Media or hairdressing can take part in a number of activities based around their subject choice.

Vice Principal of Curriculum and Learner Experience, Jane O’Neill, said: “It was good to see the groups of young people who were keen to progress on to college as well the adults who are re-entering education. I hope we provided them with enough information to make an informed decision and hope to see them all at the college in the future“
