The original and successful Creative Connections course run by the College of North East London (CONEL), the BBC and the Bernie Grant Trust has moved to a newly developed riverside location, Heron House, a short walk from Tottenham Hale underground station. The College is now enrolling students for the fourth Creative Connections course.

Course Leader Jessica Pickard feels that Creative Connections is taking a new direction that will help to improve prospects for students. The move means an increase in numbers as weve been able to extend the range of courses. Were also running a Saturday course in video production for people with no experience. We have a team of media production professionals with us who are committed to ensuring that people have a real chance at employment in a tough industry. Weve also got a much improved view!

Creative Connections is open to local people from black and minority ethnic groups with limited experience of film, video or radio. So far, graduates of the course have gone on to work for organisations like BBC LondonLive, ACTV (African Caribbean Television), taken up freelance careers, or gone on to further study.

Since the first Creative Connections, weve gained accreditation for the course which means people will have a recognised qualification, explains Jessica Pickard. The work experience part of the course is time consuming and difficult to arrange, as we try to meet the needs of individual students. But, its an essential element of the course, and its the experience that reveals for most of the students whether they are really ready for a career in production.

There are a few places left on the latest course. Anyone interested in Creative Connections should contact Jessica Pickard on 07960 672629 to arrange an interview.
