For Neelu Berry, a student at CONEL (the College of North East London) the offer of a work placement in Mumbai was too good an opportunity to miss.
In addition to singing lead vocals on a Bollywood set in the heart of the Mumbai?s music industry, she gained first-hand experience of the film making process she had studied on CONEL?s award-winning Creative Connections (Video) course.
Neelu, whose working name is Neelam was in India to record an album called Ghungru, a compilation of her eight favourite Bollywood hits, which she re-mixed. She was filmed performing a classical Indian dance to accompany a track called 'Ghungru Toot Gaye'. She is planning to use the video to promote herself as a Bollywood playback singer.
"The work experience has given me unimaginable self confidence as a singer, songwriter, producer and music video Director. I had the most amazing time being a Bollywood film star for a day." Neelu Berry commented.
Last month Neelu was invited by an American film director to write some new songs and perform them in his first Bollywood film, due to be released next year.
More than half of the students that followed CONEL?s Creative Connections (Video) course, set up with assistance from the Bernie Grant trust and the BBC, have found work in the media.
Creative Connections is a fast-track course that covers filming, editing and sound, in addition to theory-based work and is designed to teach the skills required to work in media production.
