The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s Animation learners have entered the British Animation Awards taking place 15 March at the BFI on the Southbank. The Awards bring together the key players, and emerging and established talent, from the UK animation scene.
So far 88 people have submitted animations for the Award, with 20 of these from the College alone. All the animations are uploaded to Vimeo, a creative sharing website, and the public decide the winner by visiting: http://vimeo.com/baastings and ‘liking’ their preferred video. The animation with the most ‘likes’ will be shown at the British Animation Awards and the creator will be presented with an award on the night.
The 20 students are all studying Animation BTEC Level 3, which teaches them the skills needed to succeed as a professional animator in the studio environment. By the end of the course they will leave with a showreel of films they have animated working on commercial assignments, such as the British Animation Awards.
Animation Lecturer, Matthew Phelan, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to get noticed on the animation scene. We have some amazing talent at the College and I’m sure they will impress the voters with their creativity and technique. I urge people to visit the site and vote for their favourite.”
