The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London sent a delegation of student plumbers to Stamford Bridge recently to visit PHEX – the annual Plumbing and Heating Exhibition where over 110 stands were featuring the sector's top suppliers and manufacturers.
Accompanied by their tutor Mike Wanless, the fourteen students were given a number of tasks to research and complete by visiting the stands who were demonstrating the very latest developments in plumbing and heating products and services. The tasks included accurately identifying industry ratings and standards, collecting and comparing specifications for gas fired boilers and identifying the latest environmentally friendly initiatives.
Plumbing tutor Mike Wanless, said: “Field trips such as the visit to PHEX give learners access to the Plumbing and Heating sector's top suppliers and manufacturers and innovations. We got excellent insights into environmental issues and products that can help to reduce CO2 emissions and the build-up of deadly greenhouse gases. We also explored employment offers from companies such as, British Gas.”
Student plumber, Stephanie Dawes said: “I would highly recommend the visit to other learners, as the exhibition enhanced the knowledge of current and future plumbing installation, with great emphasis on the Environment.”
Learners from the College’s Certificate in Plumbing City & Guilds 6129 Level 2 course who took part in the visit were Mohammad Bhuttoo, Sabir Bokciu, Perry Burton, Antony Chang, Stephanie Dawes, Jack Gurie, Daniel O’Malley, Daniel Pike, Archie Pitfield, George Rielly, Jason Sergides, Dimitri Stselkov, Mohammed Uddin and Carl Williams.
