Over 500 people braved the snow last night to attend an information evening at the College of North East London (CONEL).
Visitors made the most of this chance to talk to tutors and students about the myriad of courses available at the College as well as take part in Science taster sessions, literacy contests, College tours and practical make-up demonstrations.
One attendee also managed to leave clutching an i-pod! Lakhan Allen, from Hornsey Girls School, entered a competition for 16 19 year olds when she visited CONEL's stand at the recent First Haringey Careers Fair for year 11 students at the West Green Learning Centre. She was then invited to the information evening to pick up her prize. "I never normally win anything" she exclaimed happily, "I was so shocked when I found out. Me and my friends were talking about the competition just before I found out saying no one you know ever wins. And then I did!"
Lakhan also made sure she talked to the Creative Studies and Humanities lecturers at the College as she is interested in coming to CONEL to study Sociology, Psychology and Media when she leaves school.
Cathy Walsh, Vice Principal at the College, was thrilled with the turnout and described the information evening as a "resounding success". CONEL hopes to hold an even bigger event at the start of July watch this space!
