Young people wanting to take charge of their careers are invited to come along to the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s Open Day on 3 November at the Enfield Centre to get advice and sign up for a course that could take them on to university or into their dream job.
Hundreds of people attend the College’s Open Days every year - like 19 year old Keisha Golding – and after enrolling leave with the skills they need to pursue their chosen careers.
Keisha came along to an Open Day without knowing exactly what she wanted to study, but with careful advice, guidance and mentoring she went on to complete her BTEC National Certificate in Applied Forensic Science. She is now the first in her family to go to university after enrolling at The University of Kent in September to study Forensics.
Keisha said: “I’m so glad I chose to study at the College. When I came for the Open Day everyone from the receptionist to the tutors were really helpful so I knew I’d be supported right from the start. At first I had no intention of going to university but my tutors encouraged me. I applied and now I’m on my way.”
At the Open Day, there will be a range of careers workshops available to inform people about job prospects in Arts and Media, Hair and Beauty, Construction, Sports, Science, and ICT and Computing industries.
Workshops run from 4.15pm till 5.00pm and 5.15pm till 6.00pm. Participants will find out how much they could earn, how to get the qualifications and skills they need for their dream job, and will also take part in a practical taster of the work they'll do if they enrol at the College.
There will also be a number of demonstrations and interactive activities on the day, including manicures and hair braiding.
Free refreshments will also be available, a goody bag on completion of an event feedback form, and one lucky winner will also receive an iPod Touch.
There will be tutors on hand to discuss the range of courses available, including Art, Design and Media; Business and Administration; Construction; English/Literacy and Maths/Numeracy; English for Speakers of Other Languages; Hair and Beauty; Health, Care and Early Years; ICT and Computing; Science; Sport, Fitness and Active Leisure; Supported Learning; Teacher Training and Travel and Tourism.
Visitors can drop into the Enfield Centre Open Day, 73 Hertford Road, Enfield EN3 5HA between 4-7pm on Wednesday 3 November, but places for workshops are limited so secure your place now by visiting www.conel.ac.uk/opendays or calling the Course Information Line on 020 8442 3055.
