Animation students win top prize at national festival
Animation students at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London continue to excel as they once again come out on top and win the Animated Exeter’s Young Ones under 18s Animation Award.
The students who are studying Animation BTEC Level 3 entered the national competition as Team Awesome and submitted a one minute animation titled Flightless Birdie.
With an underlying message about accepting who you are, told through the story of a frustrated penguin, the judges were wowed by the quality of the graphics and level of skill from the College students.
The animation was shown during February half term at the Animated Exeter Festival, the largest public animation festival in the UK, which draws in the likes Moshi Monster creators Mind Candy and British visual effects company Double Negative, whose film work includes new Bond film Skyfall.
Student, Melda Mahmutoglu, said: “Entering competitions is a great way to get experience. It’s a great platform and really enjoyable too.”
Vice Principal for Curriculum and Learner Experience, Jane O’Neill, said: “We’re very proud of our animation students. They’re extremely talented and when talent is combined with hard work, these are the kind of results you get.”
