PASE Football Academy students play for England College Team
Learners from the PASE Football Academy, a partnership between The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London and Boreham Wood FC, had reason to celebrate last week when they were selected for the England College under 19s squad.
The three young men, Bradley Fraser, Ruddock Yala and Charlie Hunter, were called up at the last minute to play Stockport County in Manchester on 14 April. They all featured heavily in the game achieving a 2-1 victory.
Bradley, Ruddock and Charlie all combine professional football training at Boreham Wood FC with vocational training in either sports or construction. Bradley (18) and Ruddock (17) are both studying for a Construction BTEC at the College, while Charlie Hunter attends Verulam School in Hertfordshire.
All members of the Academy play league and cup games but only the best are selected to play for the England College team, which is a great achievement and allows them to be scouted for premier teams.
Bradley said:” Playing for the England College Team is an honour and an amazing experience. Being part of the Academy has definitely boosted my career and confidence, and I’m hoping to have a long lasting career in the game.”
Kurt Hintz, Director for 14-19 at the College said: “It’s rewarding to see our learners achieving great things. This truly is a unique and exciting scheme that allows young men to achieve their dream of playing professional football, while also gaining vital qualifications at a young age.”
Academy coach, Billy Hunter, said: “This is a great accolade for the students and now gives Boreham Wood six players who have represented the National English Colleges or England Schools in the past two seasons.”
Young men who would like to follow in their footsteps have an opportunity to sign up with trials currently taking place for September’s intake. The next dates for trials are 25 May and 5 July at Boreham Wood FC, and 2 June and 12 July at the College’s Enfield Centre.
