Enfield Centre opens its doors to prospective students
The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London was full of excited and enthusiastic visitors from Enfield and beyond earlier this week as the Enfield Centre held its first open day for courses starting in 2013.
Yasmin Mustafa was first in line to enquire about a Level 3 Childcare course, which will give her the qualifications and experience to become a fully qualified child-minder after two years of combined study and work experience. Visiting with her parents, who are both keen for Yasmin to attend the College, she said: “Childcare is something I really want to do and this course seems like the ideal pathway to employment in the sector.”
Yasmin, who attends Broomfield School in Enfield and is currently studying Childcare alongside her GCSESs, spoke to tutors at the open day who told her what she needed to secure a place on the course.
With that in mind, Yasmin said: “I’m confident I’ll get the four GCSEs I need but I’m also going to find some work experience before my interview so they know I’m serious about a career in childcare.”
In total over 150 people visited the open day which is held six times a year so prospective students can speak to tutors from all 14 of the College’s subject areas, tour facilities and take part in a number of taster activities.
Vice Principal of Curriculum and Learner Experience, Jane O’Neill, said: “We encourage anyone applying for courses at the College to visit an open day. They are a perfect opportunity to get a feel for the College and to make an informed decision about what course to study.”
Further open days at the Enfield Centre will take place on Thursday 24 January and Saturday 18 May. Open days at the Tottenham Centre will be held on Thursday 7 February and Saturday 11 May. For further information and to register, visit: www.conel.ac.uk/opendays
