Judo Brown Belt, Nuria Da Cunha, who is studying for her Level 3 Business Diploma at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London, celebrated success this weekend after winning the Judo National Championship Tournament held in North Hampton.
Nuria won the Open Women’s National Title and will now go on to compete in upcoming international competitions and could be selected to compete with the London 2012 Olympic team.
Nuria, who lives in Enfield and studies at the College’s Enfield Centre, has been practising Judo for six years and believes it allows her to focus. She said: “It is hard work doing sport, completing course work and being a student rep, but they are all things that are important to me. I am delighted to win the competition, achieve my Brown Belt and be recognised in a national tournament.”
Nuria, who often uses the College’s sports facilities, which include a sports hall, gym and sports field, added: “It is important for all young people to participate in sport and keep fit, as a healthy body means a healthy mind.”
Head of Business, Darren Leftwich, said: “It is great for our business students to participate in sport and well done to Nuria for achieving such as great accolade in Judo”.
