Fred Ellis, Governor at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London, has been awarded an MBE for services to the community in Haringey.
Honoured by the Queen in the New Year Honours list, the former Royal Mail worker also joined the police advisory group in 1996 and was the former chair of Haringey Race Equality Council.
Mr Ellis, born in the Caribbean, has already been recognised for being “renowned for defusing community tension” by Haringey Council, who awarded him a Building Safer Communities Together Award in 2006.
