Young people wanting to take charge of their careers are invited to come along to The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s Open Day on 24 November at the Tottenham Centre to get advice and sign up for a course that could take them on to university or into their dream jobs.
Hundreds of people attend the College’s Open Days every year and after enrolling with us leave with the skills they need to pursue their chosen careers.
Keisha Golding from Tottenham came along to an Open Day without knowing exactly what it was she wanted to study. With careful advice, guidance and mentoring Keisha went on to complete her Applied Forensic Science BTEC National Certificate. She is now studying Forensics at the University of Kent and is the first in her family to go to university.
Keisha said: “I’m so glad I chose to study at the College. When I came for the Open Day everyone from the receptionist to the tutors was really helpful, so I knew I’d be supported right from the start. At first I had no intention of going to university but my tutors encouraged me. I applied and now I’m on my way.”
As well as general course information on all our curriculum areas, there will be a range of careers workshops available to inform Open Day visitors about job prospects in Arts and Media, Hair and Beauty, Construction, Public Services, Science, and ICT and Computing industries.
Workshops run from 4.15pm until 5pm and 5.15pm until 6pm where participants can find out how much they can earn and how to get the qualifications and skills they need for their ideal jobs. Visitors can also take part in a practical ‘taster’ session.
Demonstrations and interactive activities on the day include manicures, beauty treatments and hair braiding. Visitors will receive free refreshments, a goody bag and one lucky winner will receive an iPod Touch.
Jane O’Neill, Vice Principal at the College, said: “Our Enfield Centre Open Day held earlier this month was a great success. Most attendees told us they will be applying for a College place in September 2011.
“It was good to see so many young people finding out about what our College has to offer them before applying, giving them a better chance of getting on the right course and going on to achieve success.”
Visitors can come along to the Tottenham Centre Open Day, High Road, Tottenham N15 4RU at anytime between 4pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday 24 November. However places for workshops are limited so secure your place as soon as possible by visiting www.conel.ac.uk/opendays or calling the Course Information Line on 020 8442 3055.
