CONEL learner Charles Rayson is studying Electrical Installation – so he should have no problems powering up the new games console he won in our enrolment prize draw!
Howard Jeffrey, CONEL’s Director of Learner Information and Support, presented Charles with the Nintendo Wii on Monday 19 January. The prize draw had been open to all learners who enrolled at College at the start of this academic year, and who completed a brief survey.
Charles, 18, couldn’t believe his luck, saying “I thought someone was having a laugh with me when they called to tell me I’d won a Wii. I still thought it might be a joke right up until I had the box in my hands! I’d completely forgotten filling in the survey and entering the draw.”
Currently in his second year at CONEL, Charles first came here when his sister, already studying Accountancy at CONEL, recommended the College to him. “I really love it here,” Charles said, “the teachers in particular – they’re really easy to get on with and they’ve encouraged me to stay on next year. After that, I’ll think about applying for an electronics course at University.”
Charles, whose uncle works as an electrician, had been teaching himself the basics of electrical work before deciding to study a College course. On Monday his advice to other young people wondering about their next step after school was clear. “Don’t just listen to what all your friends are saying,” he said. “Come along to CONEL and see for yourself. That’s what I decided to do, and I’m really glad I did.”
Howard Jeffrey also handed over an iPod to the two winners of another prize draw, open to everyone who came to a recent Open Day at the College.
