The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London welcomed top universities to the Higher Education Fair this week (Wednesday, 8 October). Held at the College's Tottenham Centre, the Fair gave students the opportunity to quiz university representatives directly about attending university and university life in general.

Liz Routhorn - Senior Schools, Colleges and Widening Participation Officer from London Metropolitan University - gave a talk advising students how to structure their UCAS personal statements to make them more appealing to university Admissions Officers.

Aaron Fenton, Creative and Media BTEC Level 3 student who attended the talk said: "It was really helpful; Liz gave us tips and tricks with writing a personal statement that had never occurred to me before."

Enfield Centre student Andrew Blake progressed from Engineering Level 2 to Access to Engineering Level 3 at the College. He plans to go to university to study Mechanical Engineering. Andrew said: "I was really looking forward to the Fair today. I have so many questions about applying to university, the lectures and the nightlife! This is a great place to get some of those questions answered."

Business Management BTEC Level 3 student Maria Mensah, said: "I'm going to university next year to study International Business and the Fair today is helping me to decide where I want to go." Maria is also a member of the College's Business Management Career Academy.

Nathaniel Douglas, studying for Access to IT Level 3: "I'm going to study Information Communications next year, and the course I'm on couldn't be better in preparing me. I compared the course to those offered by other colleges and found this to be the best in terms of what I need. The teachers are really helpful as well."

Renu Arrowsmith, Careers Advisor for the College organised the Fair. She said: "Events like these are fantastic in giving students insight and understanding to university life. Here at the College, we are always trying to tell students about what options they have and where they can go for further study. Events like this make those options seem so much more tangible."

Universities who attended the College's Higher Education Fair included: Anglia Ruskin, Bedfordshire, Birkbeck, Brunel, Cambridge, City, Essex, Goldsmiths, Greenwich, University of Hertfordshire, King's College, Kingston, London Metropolitan University, London South Bank University, Middlesex, Open University, Portsmouth, Royal Holloway, Roehampton, University of East London, University of West London, Westminster.
