New Sports and Learning Centres for Enfield
The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London has opened a fantastic new Sports Centre and Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at its Enfield Centre in September 2014. Celebrations were in order as the official Practical Completion process took place with architects KSS just this week.
The £2.5m state-of-the-art developments are excellent new resources for the College's Enfield Centre. In addition, the London School of Basketball (LSB) and Leyton Orient Football Club Development Squads will use the new sports facilities providing elite training, support, coaching and competitions to gifted and talented players.
The Sports Centre and LRC have been designed to be flexible in use, using cost effective robust and recyclable materials similar to the College's existing buildings. This helps keep a consistent look and feel to the Enfield Centre as well as much greater control over maintenance costs, reducing the number of separate specialists needed to look after the new buildings. Both the Sports Centre and LRC have been designed to achieve high levels of accessibility for people with disabilities. Access to the LRC has been improved by adding a new ramp and lift, and the new reception desk is specially designed for the needs of wheelchair users.
The Sports Centre has been designed in line with Sport England guidance and offers better changing facilities for people with disabilities. Students now have access to a full sized sports hall with a resurfaced multisport floor, an industry standard cardio and resistance training room and high quality changing rooms. The stunning external façade adds to the other wonderful buildings which have been added to Enfield Centre in recent years, creating a superb learning environment and local resource.
The College is committed to a sustainable, low energy approach to its buildings, and both the refurbished LRC and Sports Centre have been designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of 'very good'.
Kurt Hintz, Vice Principal Curriculum and Learner Experience said: "The College now has excellent sports facilities to deliver our sports programmes and academies in Football, Basketball, Boxing and Racket Sports. Providing excellent sports provision is a key priority for the college and these new facilities are in line with the highest industry standards."
