The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London hosted two sessions with local employers today (Friday 13 March) as part of Haringey 100, a project run in partnership with Haringey Council, working to create 100 apprenticeship places for Haringey people in 100 working days. Over 35 local employers attended throughout the day, which was timed to coincide with National Apprenticeships Week 2015 (9-13 March).

The events provided an excellent opportunity to highlight the advantages of employing apprentices for employers often too busy to research the benefits themselves. Currently, a £3000 fund is available known as the Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) for each apprentice employed, aged 16 – 24 years. The deadline for applications is June 2015

Businesses are also eligible for a range of services if they join Haringey 100, such as web and telephone support to SMEs, account management for businesses with over 250 employees to support the establishment of apprenticeship programmes and access to the Apprenticeship Vacancy website.

K10 an Apprenticeship Training Agency partner of the College, which specialises in construction based apprenticeships had Andrew Purvis representing them today who said "I really applaud the Haringey 100 project; I think it's a fantastic way to bring the community and the college together. We currently have 40 apprentices with the College. I also applaud how the college is taking the lead with apprenticeships, and think this is something the private sector needs to follow."

Huw Jones, Chief Executive for the North London Chamber of Commerce praised the event and said "The whole event is very positive. I feel the Haringey 100 will have a very positive effect on both young people and the local community."

Jackie Chapman the College's Director for Employability said: "Here at the College we place great importance on matching the employers with great apprentices. We want to support as many employers as possible, by allowing them to experience great apprentices who will inject new energy into their environments. Working in partnership with the Council, we are leading the way on apprenticeships through the Haringey 100 project."
