The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s Level 3 Hairdressing students took part in an Avant-Garde themed competition and end of year show in July at the Enfield Salon. The talented students competed creating different looks from their mood boards in only 90 minutes.
The competition was judged on how well the models represented their mood board. On the judging panel was Rani Juttla, an external verifier for the College, Mary O’Connor, a qualified hairdresser and ex staff member and Luke Christou, a former Hairdressing Level 2 apprentice.
Part of the judging panel, Luke, who is now running his own business said: “I was impressed by the high level of creativity by the students. I remember the College was my employer’s first choice when I attended 5 years ago. The staff at the College were extremely helpful and supportive. After finishing my apprenticeship at CONEL, I put everything I learnt into place by starting my own Hairdressing Business.”
The worthy winner, Shkute Traci (middle) had great use of extension and colours. Shkute’s mood board was styled very well and the final look was a great reflection of it. In second place was Dlnia Kadir (left) and third place was Songul Yazici (right).
Curriculum Team Leader in Hairdressing, Carol Chapman said: “We were all extremely proud of Shkute as she had progressed through the levels from level 1 to level 3 and produced an amazing hairstyle that would have stood out at any Avant Garde competition. She executed her style demonstrating flair, creativity and absolute precision. Well done to her and the entire group for exhibiting such a high level of skill.”
