College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London learner, Vaughan Da Costa is competing at one of the World Skills UK preliminary live heats next week (Friday, 17 May) in Blackburn. The brightest and best from across the country, battle it out to see who will qualify for the UK heats and ultimately the UK Team. Finalists will then go on to represent their country at Leipzig later in the year.Vaughan, who is studying Networking BTEC Level 2 at the College, is competing in the Microsoft IT Technician category. The competition focuses on all the essential requirements for a successful career as a Microsoft IT Technician within any industry.

Competitors are tested on their ability to configure IT hardware and software to meet customer requirements within the fastest time. This involves setting up a Client /Server network with a domain controller and completing a series of practical tasks to demonstrate their skills.

Vaughan, said of the competition: "I'm really pleased that my tutors believed in me enough to enter me. I've done the preparation, so I'm really looking forward to the contest now."

Competitors who achieve the highest scores in the live heats will go through to the Worldskills national competition.

Tutor, Satar Rahmani said: "We're all really proud of Vaughan and we know he'll do a great job in Blackburn."
