College learner Anne lands job at Sainsbury‘s flagship store
College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London Learner Anne Lodge has landed a job with top employer Sainsbury's, working in their flagship London store. The store, which is the largest in London and has created 250 local jobs, was officially opened on Wednesday morning (6 November) by Tottenham Hotspur FC chairman Daniel Levy along with club ambassador Ledley King. David Lammy MP for Tottenham was also present including representatives from the College, Haringey Council and Job Centre Plus.
Anne said, "I was unemployed for quite some time. Both my Job Centre Plus advisors Shirley Ali and Joyce Jardine along with James Snelling, Customer Service Operations Manager provided me with help to find suitable job vacancies. They advised to me that it was my IT skills which were holding me back in finding a new position. So I enrolled for ICT First Steps Entry Level 3 at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London."
Having worked for 15 years in the travel industry Anne was laid off in early 2013. Anne said: "it was very stressful and hard to believe this could happen to me... being in my early 50s, I felt demotivated and dejected."
"The ICT Entry Level 3 course gave me a solid foundation in learning how to search for job vacancies online, complete and submit electronic job application forms, write a CV and covering letter on a Word document and access the internet. Enrolling for the course was the highest turning point in my life. I was chuffed with the tutors who were extremely encouraging and supportive, I met lovely new people from all walks of life, made some great friends, and overall it just boosted my confidence level".
Soon after the course, Anne landed her new job as a Sainsbury's Customer Service Assistant. Anne said, ''I am proud to be working with one of the world's leading retailer supermarket chains of Fairtrade products. I thank my lucky stars as I have always been fortunate enough to work with top companies. I love working with Sainsbury's because I like to be customer facing and I enjoy staff rewards and benefits it offers to its employees".
Jane O'Neill, College Interim Principal and Chief Executive said: "We are very pleased to find out our ICT course paid off for Anne in helping her find a job with Sainsbury's. I wish her every success in her new career."
Samantha Condon, Sainsbury's Deputy Store Manager said, ''When I first met Anne she struck me as a friendly, approachable person who is always ready to help. I am confident she will deliver our core value of ''making it happen'', as she has all the characteristics to do her job well".
