Spring buzz at College Open Day with Unity Radio
Unity Radio DJ interviews Maria Rees, Curriculum Manager of Hairdressing
College Open Day spring buzz with Unity Radio. Crowds were drawn in by the spring sunshine and the desire to find out about the College’s many vocational courses and apprenticeships. DJs from Unity Radio entertained everyone throughout the day with live interviews and some of the hottest music around.
As well as enjoying the atmospheric sounds of the Unity Radio, visitors could try their hand at a range of tasters from science and construction to Creative and Media.
Seventeen year olds, Benjimin and Callon Kelly came along to find out about College courses in Games Design and Animation. “It’s really creative here and the work here is really impressive.”
Head of School Joel Wynn, explained that the Creative industries generate billions for the UK economy and that the College trains young people for jobs in the media using latest industry standard software.
Learners were giving free manicures and styling tips as well as the chance to try out make up techniques themselves.
Sixteen year old Serina Hibble came along with her mother, Lisa Mansfield to find out about courses in Theatrical and Media Make Up. Lisa said: “I love experimenting with make-up and I’m forever showing my mum different styles and looks I’ve created. One day I decided that’s what I want to do when I get a job so I’ve come along to the College to find out how to enrol on the course.”
Ann Atkin, Head of School for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy said that British stylists and therapists are respected for their skills worldwide. Many of our students go on to work internationally.
For those visitors who weren’t quite sure what they wanted to do Careers Advisors and teachers were on hand to talk through their options.
Miss Chamberlain came along with her mother Miss Murfitt to find out about careers, salaries and courses in Construction and Beauty Therapy.
Sixteen year old Mark Jenkins came along to find out about a career in Sport. He said: “I love Sport so I’ve come along to find out about the specialisms of each course and where they can take me.”
