The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London’s Theatrical and Media Make-Up students will be offering a range of creative make up treatments at the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships (NJIRC) next Friday 21 March at the Lea Valley Athletics Stadium in Edmonton. Organised by London Youth Rowing, this is their annual flagship event.
Eight students will be offering treatments, supervised throughout the day by their tutor, make-up artist Debra Pluthero. The students who study special effects make up will offer the young rowers wounds and scars as well as the many dramatic forms of make-up seen in films and on TV, in advertising commercials and in theatres. Debra’s students worked with London Youth Rowing (LYR) for the first time last year at Skills London, a huge careers show held at ExCeL each year when the College invited LYR to join its stand. LYR coach Lawrence Farquarson offered an incredibly popular rowing challenge at Skills London while the Theatrical Media and Make Up students offered fun make up and makeovers alongside them. The event worked so well London Youth Rowing invited the College to one of its events.
Penny Cuthbert Development and Training Manager for London Youth Rowing said: “Over 2,500 school students attended the event last year, 80% if which were from schools within the M25 and most of those were from North and East London. To give the young people interesting things to do when they are not racing on our machines I try to organise lots of activities and give the day more of a festival feel to it.”
The College’s Learner Recruitment staff will also be available at the event to give out information about courses and careers at the College.
