The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London sports students Prisca Awili-Alcaraz and Dean Lloyd both scooped prestigious awards at the Enfield Celebrating Sport event last Thursday (20 March 2014). Prisca won her award in the category ‘Young Sports Performer of the Year’ having gained the title of Cadet British Champion at the 2012 National Judo Championships. Sports and Public Service learner Dean Lloyd took home the ‘Young Volunteer of the Year’ award having been nominated by tutors from the College.
Our winners received a glass plaque, certificate and a prize donated by competition supporters, and this year the main supporter was Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Jan Hickman, Enfield’s Physical Education and Sports Development Manager said “We want to reflect the enormous amount of work and dedication that goes into sport in this borough and say thank you.”
Prisca said of the awards “It’s nice to be recognised by the College for my alethic abilities, and winning an award really helps to build my confidence in Judo.” Prisca will be finishing her course at the College this June, and will continue her Judo career both at home and abroad.
Interim Principal, Jane O’Neill said “It’s wonderful that Enfield Council is taking the time to celebrate the sporting talent in the borough. Our award winners are extremely talented individuals and their efforts should be rewarded.” The College is investing in new facilities for Sport which will open in September 2014 making the College the provider of choice for all aspiring Sports learners.
