College invests £3.3m in new Sports and Learning Centres
The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London is investing £3.3million in its fabulous new Sports Centre and Library, which will be ready with perfect timing for students enrolling in September 2014. Business continues as usual for current students at Enfield Centre, as the College has relocated the Gym and Library to its recently completed Park building while refurbishment takes place. Construction on the new Library and Sports Hall began this week (9 April) and also includes thoroughly modernising the two-storey classroom block that connects the two facilities. All new building will be carefully colour co-ordinated and matched to the existing buildings.
College Interim Principal and Chief Executive, Jane O’Neill said: “We are investing £3.3million in our Enfield Centre - and we have invested more than £13million since 2011. We want to make sure that our Sports and Learning facilities are exceptional, ensuring that we become the College of first choice for all learners living in Haringey and Enfield.”
We want our learners to study in great modern facilities. An impressive curved wall will mark the entrance to the new Learning Centre complete with stylish graphics. The new Learning Centre furniture includes modern pods and workstations for group and individual work. A new lift will be installed as part of the rebuilding and a longer external ramp to the entrance for easier wheelchair access.
The Sports Hall floor is being upgraded as part of the work to ensure a much improved playing surface for table tennis, basketball, netball, cricket, volleyball, 5-a-side football and badminton. The College has an excellent offer for sports and students can join Sports Academies in Racket Sports, Football and Boxing. We plan to extend our offer further and work in partnership with other providers to ensure as many people as possible benefit from the investment.
The College has specified the BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating as a requirement for the new building design. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) is a means of certifying how environmentally friendly a building is.
