The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London announced today (8 May) that Leyton Orient Football Club is to become its new Football Academy partner for 2014/15. The Academy, which is called the Leyton Orient Football Club Development Squad, will be up and running from August 2014.

Leyton Orient FC, based at Brisbane Road in Waltham Forest, is in League One of the Football League, currently challenging for promotion to the Championship. The Club has a well-deserved reputation for excellence in the fields of education, as well as in football coaching and community projects.

Football Academy learners are able to choose from any of the full time courses on offer at the College’s Enfield Centre. So, from Business to Science or Public Services to Computing, applicants can combine their love of football with training for employment in a career that interests them. While some players make it to the top flight in football, not all do, which means that the Football Academy will also make sure that learners have the qualifications they need and a back-up plan.

Kurt Hintz, Director for Sport explained: “This is a very exciting move for the College. The Leyton Orient quality of coaching and commitment is second to none, the Club’s ground is close to our College - and the new Football Academy means we are able to offer huge benefits to our players.”

Based at the College’s Enfield Centre, the new partnership offers Football Academy players a free football training kit, a tracksuit and a kit bag. Players also receive professional football coaching for 6 hours a week and each Wednesday they play a match in the highly competitive National College Football League. There are work experience opportunities too at Leyton Orient, as well as free tickets for learners to special high profile games. Using software called Dartfish, Sports learners work with the Club’s analyst to go over tactics and game strategy.

As part of the Football Academy, there is onsite medical support for injury prevention and rehabilitation, plus free membership and use of the brand new College gym and fitness suite. Players can also have free personalised fitness, strength and conditioning, exercise and nutrition programmes designed and monitored for them.

Top Football Academy squad members have the opportunity to apply for sports sponsorship funding, which is worth up to £2,500 a year.

Miguel de Souza, Leyton Orient FC Head of Youth Recruitment, said: "This course allows individuals to experience the type of coaching sessions that take place throughout the season at a professional football club. The facilities available are truly amazing, allowing both coaches and players to work in a professional environment. Players of all abilities are encouraged to apply, as this course is tailor-made for everyone, not just top players."

College Interim Principal and Chief Executive, Jane O’Neill said: “The College is investing over £1.5million in new facilities for Sport which will open in September 2014 making the College the provider of choice for all aspiring Sports learners.”
