Are you a Haringey resident? Do you have an EHCP? Are you between the age of 17-25? Then you can gain work-based experience while receiving a high level of support to help you develop competitive and transferable employability skills. The Supported Internship programme also helps individuals build confidence, and increase their independence, all in a work-based environment.

For more information please contact the ALS/Supported Learning team.

What are Supported Internships?

Supported Internships are work-based study programmes for young people aged 17-25 with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Internships aim to equip students with the practical skills they need for work. They are unpaid and last for a minimum of six months. Students complete a personalised study programme alongside their employment. Wherever possible, employers will support students moving into paid employment at the end of their programme.

Our Supported Internships will help you:

  • Gain work experience with a top employer
  • Receive work-based training and support
  • Develop competitive and transferable skills
  • Build confidence and increase independence
  • Personalised study programmes

Our Partners

Our Supported Internships are run in partnership with North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, DFN Project SEARCH, Haringey Council and Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.DFN Project SEARCH is run by the DFN Charitable Foundation and provides employment programmes for people with SEN. More than 65% of people who have completed its programmes have gone on to gain full-time employment. This is huge when compared to national figures that show just 6% of people in the UK with SEN are in work.

Entry Requirements

  • Aged 16-24 at the time of enrolment and have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), formally a Statement of SEN
  • Commitment to five days a week, with the ability to travel independently to and from a place of work
