Introduction to the course
Introduction to Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools at Level 3
This course covers every aspect of supporting teaching and learning in schools. You will study topics that reflect the importance of supporting teaching and learning, and the essential support work that is carried out in schools to help children achieve their potential. There are 11 mandatory units for the certificate, including safeguarding, health and safety, positive behaviour and assessment for learning.
You will attend CONEL one day per week and work on a placement two days a week. This could be on a voluntary or paid basis, if you are in a suitable school setting.
What do I need?
To enrol onto the Supporting Teaching and Learning course at Level 3, you will need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above or the equivalent Level 2 qualifications at Pass grade. If you do not have formal qualifications you can come in and complete a college based assessment. All learners are accepted subject to an interview with the Early Years team and suitable references. During the course you will be working in a placement for 200-250 hours. These placements will usually be in a school at Foundation Stage, or Key Stages 1-4. Learners are able to find their own setting or these will be arranged by our Placement officers. In order to complete a placement a DBS check will be required.
How is the course taught?
Lessons on this course offer a range of activities, including Assignment writing, group discussions, projects, self-reflection, placement based task and Assessment in the placement setting.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by portfolio of work, including direct observations by an assessor, reflective accounts, tasks set by CACHE (the Awarding Body), and written and pictorial information.
What does it lead to?
People with a Level 3 certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools can progress to other childcare courses, Access to Higher Education courses, or higher education.
